DC8: Supramolecular protecting groups for carbohydrate synthesis

University of Copenhagen (UCPH) – Denmark, Department of Chemistry

Prof. Christian Marcus Pedersen (cmp@chem.ku.dk)

In this project, we will investigate the interaction between supramolecular hosts and unprotected carbohydrates in water with the goal of developing methods for selective functionalization. The initial phase will involve utilizing known supramolecular hosts obtained from collaborators, focusing on monosaccharides, and exploring simple protective group manipulations, such as ester formation. Building upon this foundation, new hosts will be developed, and the chemical scope will be expanded to include a wider range of reaction types. Simultaneously, we will examine the non-covalent molecular interactions using techniques like NMR. The primary objective is to achieve regioselective reactions at the alcohol groups. As the project progresses, attention will also be given to studying reactions at the anomeric center, with a specific focus on anomeric selectivity in the synthesis of simple glycosides.
