NMR methods for the characterization of protein-ligand interactions at the mutation hotspot
Description of the project
In the context of the research activities of ATLAS Molecular Pharma and in the framework of the ENSCC Doctoral Network, DC10 will be in charge of the project “NMR methods for the characterization of protein-ligand interactions at the mutation hotspot”. The project will develop novel 1H- and 19F-NMR methods for the characterization of protein-ligand interactions. Specifically, the successful candidate will be in charge to develop an NMR based method to screen libraries of compounds that selectively associate to a predefined binding site. Also, from the applied point of view, the project will try to obtain novel modulators of the heme biosynthetic pathway, specifically targeting ALAS2, the rate limiting enzyme in the pathway. This approach may provide new therapeutic intervention lines to several rare diseases of the porphyria family. The project will be developed in close collaboration with the other members of the consortium, aimed at establishing feed-back interactions that will guide the further design and development of carbohydrate binding entities towards specific targets. The project foresees two secondments, one in industry and another in academia for DC10 to broaden her/his technical skills and encounter different working environments. ATLAS Molecular Pharma has full access to one of the most advanced NMR facilities in Spain (up to 1 GHz). The group is highly international, as well as interdisciplinary, gathering chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, and molecular biology expertise.
